About The Syracuse Teachers Association

The Syracuse Teachers Association (STA) is a labor union representing teachers, teaching assistants, and other educational professionals who work in the Syracuse City School District in Syracuse, New York.

STA was established in 1848 and is affiliated with the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). The union represents more than 3,000 members who work in a variety of educational settings, including elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and special education programs.

The mission of the Syracuse Teachers Association is to promote excellence in education and to advocate for the rights and interests of its members.  Some of the services and benefits that STA provides to its members include:

• Collective bargaining to negotiate salaries, benefits, and working conditions

• Legal representation in employment-related matters

• Professional development and training opportunities

• Advocacy and lobbying for education policies and funding that support teachers and students

• Networking and community-building among members
