Teacher Evaluation Update

In the midst of a lot of confusing information being presented by others, the STA would like you to know where we are regarding negotiating the new evaluation negotiations:

The STA continues to have productive discussions with the district regarding the development and implementation of the new evaluation system. We have agreed on the Charlotte Danielson Rubric and the use of the Danielson Group/Teachscape to provide training and support. That training should be starting soon. Some of that training will be offered on Saturdays, but will be optional and paid. Other dates will be scheduled during the workday and district-provided subs will be necessary.

We have yet to agree on the 20% local measures, the observation percentage, number of observations or any other components of the 60%. There are also several task forces that will make recommendations that will inform our negotiations. For PLA schools, we hope to arrive soon at a workable plan to implement this school year per the state requirements. Our goal throughout these negotiations continues to be ensuring an evaluation system that supports teachers and is as fair and meaningful as possible.

Obviously there is much to be decided and we will continue to keep you updated with correct information. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call the office @ 4526. We thank all of you for your continued patience and support.

Revised 2011-12 School Calendar

Important Information for Teaching Assistants

As a result of the elimination of at least 175 teaching assistant positions there will be a significant number of teaching assistants who will be assigned to buildings other than where they were placed last year. STA does not know how many or who will be moved; nor do we know when people will be notified of their assignments. It has been suggested that if a teaching assistant has a preference of elementary, middle or high school (s)he should put that preference in writing as soon as possible to Linda Mulvey, Special Ed or Randolph Williams, Personnel. Please share this information with your colleagues.

STA Honoring Newly Tenured Teachers

As the start of the new school year rolls along the STA Officers are going to buildings to recognize the newly tenured teachers across the district. Pictured to the left is Megan Henderson at Westside Academy at Blodgett School and President, Kevin Ahern and 1st Vice President, Joan Brown.
